Ibiza is an island which is located on the Mediterranean Sea. It is situated around 70 kilometers from the coast of Valencia city in the eastern Spain. It is regarded as the largest island among the Balearic Islands which is an autonomous community in Spain. The largest cities of the island are SantAntoni de Portmany, Santa Eulària des Riu and Ibiza Town. The highest point of the island is known as the Sa Talaiassa(or Sa Talaia) which has a height of 475 metres (1,558 feet) above sea level.
Where it is one sixth of the size of the neighborhood island Majorca, it is more than five times the size of Mykonos and ten times the size of the Manhattan Island. It has become popular because of its link with the electronic music and nightlife which was started over here. It is famous also for its summer club scene that allures a huge number of tourists, although the government of the island as well as the Spanish Tourist Office has been controversially working in order to advertise the family oriented tourism more here. It also accommodates the notable port in Ibiza Town which is a famous destination for a number of tourists and now it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ibiza as well as the neighborhood island of Formentera towards its south are known as Pitysuses or Pine Islands. Although majorly famous for its party scene, a large part of the island is registered as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hence, it is protected from the commercialization and development of the major cities. A famous example consists of the "God's Finger" in the Benirràs Bay and a few of the common Ibizan cultural destinations like the remains of the first Phoenicians settlement at Sa Caleta. Other destinations are still having threat from the developers like the SesFeixes Wetlands however this place has now been known as the threatened environment. It is also expected that measures will be taken in order to preserve this wetland and other areas.
